SARAJEVO, January 11 (FENA) - French Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina Christine Toudic said in a blog that the European Union is currently at a crossroads and that it must learn lessons from the health crisis, which has shown the vulnerability and dependence of the European economy and the importance of innovation and collective action in overcoming crises.

She pointed out that France holds the presidency of the Council of the European Union (PFUE) from January 1 to June 30, and that the priorities of the presidency are reflected in its slogan: strength, recovery, and affiliation.

As three priority directions of development for the European Union, she mentioned building the sovereignty of the European Union (EU), then building a new European model of growth so that the EU becomes a productive, creative and innovative force, digital power, but also ecological and social model and building EU humanity. closer to its citizens and more democratic, strong in its core values, including the rule of law.

- Because there is something in common between the pandemic crisis, the climate emergency, the aggravation of international life and the unknowns of the digital revolution: from 27 countries - she said.

She claims that the imperative of European sovereignty will be the guiding thread of this presidency, in order to accelerate the broad awareness movement present throughout our Europe, since it began to emerge from the time of naivety and carelessness and open its eyes to the risks of collapse threatening the Union.

"What France will promote during this presidency is, above all, the ambition of a sovereign and united European recovery, in order to further adopt the lessons from the health crisis and provide funds for the successful implementation of major future transitions," she said.

And in that context, and it is obvious, she added, special attention will be paid to the Western Balkans.

- In June, we will hold a conference on the Western Balkans, because the Balkans are more than a neighborhood, it is in the heart of Europe, and it is enough to look at the map, to look at our history. New tensions are shaking the region. History returns, sometimes tragic. So, today we have a very special responsibility in relation to the Western Balkans. We must pursue a policy of re-engagement, but also investment, in order to promote the economic integration of this region, develop cooperation between people, raise the issue of minorities in this region, as well as fight against interference, against manipulation, which is the act of several regional powers seeking to destabilize Europe across the Balkans. I believe that this engagement, which is political and economic engagement in the Western Balkans, is the real agenda of our European sovereignty, because we will not be able to build a Europe of peace for the next 50 years if we leave the Western Balkans in the current situation. So it is about clarifying his European perspective, reinvesting in this region and its unity, and the true existence of common ambition for the coming decades - the ambassador concluded, the French Embassy in BiH said.
