SARAJEVO, December 14 (FENA) - BiH Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations Staša Košarac said in Sarajevo today that the issue of building a nuclear and radioactive waste disposal at the site of Trgovska gora should be treated in BiH at the highest political level.
“Croatia has been working on this landfill project for a long time. I am sorry that in some previous period, BiH institutions were completely passive. In the last two years, we have mobilized with the aim of finding an adequate answer based on scientific research facts, for Croatia to change its location. Yesterday, we tried to provide political support by asking the representatives of the Croatian Government to change the location,” said Košarac after the meeting dedicated to the issue of Trgovska gora.
He added that this location is completely unacceptable from the aspect of protection of BiH citizens in the Una River basin and the natural beauties of the two national parks.
“We are extremely motivated to resolve this issue and to prevent Croatia from building a landfill on that location. That location is in the border zone, and if we look at the population density, it is said that it is several times higher in BiH than in Croatia,” said Košarac.
He praised the efforts of the Expert Team, which he said was mobilized and that this issue will be treated in an adequate way, which was discussed at the meeting today.
“It is important for us that our experts enter the territory of Croatia, the locality of Čerkezovac and conduct tests together with Croatian experts. That is why we need the engagement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of BiH, to enable our experts to enter, i.e. to be able to do their job legally,” said Košarac, adding that the Coordination Body for Trgovska gora will prepare comprehensive information for the BiH Council of Ministers and Presidency of BiH.
Srebrenka Golić, a member of the Coordination Body for Trgovska gora and Minister of Physical Planning, Construction and Ecology of the Republika Srpska, said that she was satisfied with the work of the Expert Team, but not completely with the work of the Legal Team.
