SARAJEVO, December 9 (FENA) - The epidemiological situation in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina is mostly similar to that in the last two months or more, which can be called epidemiological stability, but high mortality is still a problem, said at today's session of the House of Peoples of the FBiH Parliament Goran Čerkez from the FBiH Ministry of Health.

As an important cause of high mortality of patients and mostly those older than 60, Čerkez notes a small percentage of the vaccinated population, claiming that mortality is higher in certain periods than during the war.

He confirmed that the coronavirus strain 'omicron' has not been registered in the FBiH so far and that protection measures are the same for now, while professional guidelines on this type of virus are still pending.

Čerkez also said that the cantons have been given the opportunity to apply the 'vaccinated-tested-had the disease' rule when it comes to the presence of coronavirus in their communities and when it comes to the citizens' entry into public buildings and crowded events. He expressed hope that the celebration of the New Year's holidays will not lead to an escalation of the epidemiological situation.

Asked by the delegates why the Federation of BiH has left it to the cantons to determine the rules, Čerkez said, among other things, that the advantage of acting in a crisis is in decentralized systems, but with mutual reporting and cooperation between different levels of government.
