SARAJEVO, December 3 (FENA) - Conference on Improving Early Growth and Development of Children in the Federation of BiH - Achievements, Challenges and Prospects, opened on Thursday in Sarajevo.
A two-day conference is organized by UNICEF in BiH, with the financial support of the Austrian Development Agency, and in cooperation with the FBiH ministries of education and science, health and labor and social policy.
The first day of the conference presented the "Policy Strategic Documents Related to the Promotion of Early Growth and Development of Children in FBiH", as well as an overview of the activities of departmental ministries in the field of early growth and development of children.
Assistant Minister of Education Nadija Bandić said that they wanted to see what the achievements were, the challenges and what the prospects would be in the coming period.
Head of the UNICEF office in BiH, Rownak Khan, pointed out the importance of an integrated service when discussing the early growth and development of children.
"At that early age, it is really very important that we provide integrated services to children, while they are still in their mothers' wombs, but all this has great benefits later in life when they become adults. Studies have shown that inaction, omissions and non-investment in the development and early growth of children can affect a 10 percent reduction in gross national income, and this applies to the case also if no investment is made in preschool education," said Khan.
On Friday, the second day of the Conference, good practices and experiences will be presented, challenges and potential risks from the perspective of experts who provide services to children and families, and an overview of scientific achievements in BiH and the world in early growth and development.
