Komšić receives Secretary of State of the Kingdom of Spain for the EU

SARAJEVO, December 2 (FENA) - Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Željko Komšić received the Secretary of State of the Kingdom of Spain for the European Union Juan González-Barba Pera and Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to BiH Maria Teresa Lizaranza Perinat.

The three officials discussed the current political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Komšić expressed concern over the destabilizing activities of the entity of Republika Srpska and stressed that the state institutions must function unimpeded which will bring us back to meeting the 14 key priorities from the European Commission's Opinion on BiH's candidacy for the EU. 

The BiH Presidency Chairman Željko Komšić emphasized that the judgments of the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg must be implemented in order to eliminate discrimination and enable respect for human and minority rights throughout BiH.

He stressed that Bosnia and Herzegovina's institutions must resist any attempt to overthrow the constitutional order, breaking the law and dismantling the state. Chairman Komšić expressed hope that the escalation of political conflicts would not happen because it could very quickly reflect on the entire region and Europe.

The Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Željko Komšić emphasized that the support of the Kingdom of Spain, as well as other EU countries, for reform and integration processes in our country, related to obtaining candidate status in the European Union and membership in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. He expressed satisfaction with the increased interest of the Kingdom of Spain in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region.

The Secretary of State of the Kingdom of Spain Juan González-Barba Pera expressed satisfaction with the good and continuous relations between the two countries. He pointed out that he was aware of the seriousness of the situation, but that he was sure that BiH, as a unified country, would one day become a member of the EU and NATO. He stressed that he believes EU enlargement to the Western Balkans is a natural sequence of events.

The interlocutors agreed that the system of values ​​of a democratic society and respect for human rights is the basis for any further progress and that this must be insisted on.

The Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Željko Komšić thanked the Secretary of State of the Kingdom of Spain for the EU Juan González-Barba Peri and the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to BiH Maria Teresa Lizaranza Perinat for understanding and selfless support in our country's reform processes towards EU membership, stated the Presidency of BiH.
