FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, December 1 (FENA) - Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Željko Komšić and member of the Presidency of BiH Šefik Džaferović met with State Minister for European affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany, Michael Roth.

Topics of discussion were the current political situation in BiH, reform processes and activities on the country's European path.

Members of the BiH Presidency reiterated their commitment to the country's European perspective, as one of the key foreign policy goals of Bosnia and Herzegovina, for which there is a consensus of all political actors. They expressed gratitude for the fact that the new German Federal Government and other institutions of that country will continue the current continuous support to Bosnia and Herzegovina, especially its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and the European path, the Presidency of BiH announced.

Komšić and Džaferović pointed out that the Federal Republic of Germany has proven many times that, as a friend, it stands by Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Minister Roth reaffirmed the continuity of the Federal Republic of Germany's support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which he considers unquestionable.

“Any interference or attack on the territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina will have a strong response from the Federal Republic of Germany. For its part, the Federal Republic of Germany will also provide support to Bosnia and Herzegovina in its efforts within European integration, in a way that all accession criteria related to democracy, rule of law and protection of basic human rights must be met,” he said.

Regarding the current crisis situation, Minister Roth said that sanctions against those who block the work of Bosnia and Herzegovina's institutions are ready, and called for unblocking the work of state institutions as soon as possible, in order to continue the reform process.

In this regard, Minister Roth further stressed the need to overcome ethnic divisions and build the country as a state of all its citizens, Bosnians and Herzegovinians, as citizens of one country.

The delegation of the Federal Republic of Germany also included a member of the German Parliament (Bundestag) Adis Ahmetović, and the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to BiH Margret Uebber, announced the Presidency of BiH.
