SARAJEVO, December 1 (FENA) - President of the Social Democratic Party of Bosnia and Herzegovina Nermin Nikšić talked today with US Special Envoy for Electoral Reform Matthew Palmer and Director of the European External Action Service Angelina Eichhorst about changes to the Election Law and the BiH Constitution.
Summarizing the meeting, he told reporters that the plan is to secure the support of SNSD leader Milorad Dodik to go to the indirect election of members of the Presidency of BiH, with which the representatives of the opposition parties agree.
He assessed as positive that today's meeting was organized in an expanded format and that it was attended by all political parties, but it was crucial for him to define whether to discuss changes to the Election Law for the Federation of BiH or the state level because only parties from the Federation of BiH attended the meeting.
- We had the opportunity to hear the disagreements between the SDA and the HDZ, who are a little more optimistic today than they were yesterday, but I cannot share their optimism - Nikšić underlined.
He is of the opinion that the whole story goes back to the beginning and he reminded again that there are conclusions of opposition political parties that focus only on fair and honest elections, which means that the new law should provide for electronic voting, ballot scanning and video surveillance at polling stations.
These, he added, are the conditions without which the opposition leader is not even ready to talk, and Nikšić states that the SDA and HDZ have expressed their readiness to fulfill those conditions.
