Podžić: BiH Armed Forces is the only legal and legitimate armed force in BiH

SARAJEVO, November 29 (FENA) - The Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina (AFBiH) are celebrating their 16th birthday with good results that have been recognized both in the country and by partners abroad, despite numerous challenges caused by the coronavirus pandemic, limited financial resources and the interim financing of the state, as well as numerous political obstructions and blockades of the work of the BiH institutions, said the Minister of Defense of BiH Sifet Podžić in a conversation with FENA on the occasion of the BiH Armed Forces Day, December 1.

When asked about the extent to which the complex political situation in BiH and the repeated threats of the SNSD policymakers led by Milorad Dodik reflect on the situation in the AFBiH, the BiH Defense Minister said that daily political obstructions that come from the BiH Presidency member Milorad Dodik did not disrupt the professional relationship of the AF members as the only legal and legitimate armed force in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

"Although in such circumstances, it is not easy to maintain morale, togetherness and everything that makes a system unique, we have succeeded. The AFBiH is the most organized part of BiH society and is ready to be at the service of all citizens, if necessary. Fortunately, the army is a strong institution, because in it, above all, man relies on man, and it is difficult to break it," Podžić points out.

When it comes to responding to a situation that could possibly endanger the peace and stability of BiH, and communication with NATO headquarters Sarajevo and EUFOR in that regard, Podžić emphasizes the importance of fostering partnerships in the context of preserving peace and security.

"As for some external threats, the AFBiH is able to defend this country together with its partners through collective security. In Bosnia and Herzegovina itself, we have EUFOR, which is in charge of stabilizing peace in our country. EUFOR members have reserve forces at their disposal in their countries, ready to react in a very short time if necessary. These forces are constantly trained and in BiH they hold their annual exercises in which the AFBiH also successfully participates," he explains.

At the same time, he notes that it must not be forgotten that, in addition to EUFOR, the NATO Headquarters Sarajevo also operates in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The newly acquired funds will help our soldiers from all over our country to make us even more proud, in their difficult but honorable military call, said the Minister of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina Sifet Podžić in an interview with FENA, extending congratulations on the occasion of the Day of AFBiH, December 1.
