BELGRADE, November 5 (FENA) – The closing argument before the first instance verdict has been postponed today before the Higher Court in Belgrade in the case of Osman Osmanović, a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina, who was charged in February 2020 with committing war crimes against civilians.

Osmanović's lawyer, Djordje Dozet, confirmed in a statement for FENA that the closing arguments in this case had been postponed, but that the examination of one witness had been held.

“I'm not sure what they wanted to prove with this. It is obvious that the fellow prosecutor was not ready to start the closing arguments. It was obvious and I expected it that with certain changes to the indictment should have resulted that my client and I seek more time to prepare the defense. My client is not a person who is not in a hurry,” said Dozet.

As he said, they had many procedural possibilities to prolong the procedure, "but we never used it because we are in a hurry".

He expects the court to rise above any policy, prejudice, to respect the Constitution of the Republic of Serbia, international law to which it is bound by the same constitution.

Osmanović was arrested on November 23, 2019, based on a criminal report from the RS Ministry of the Interior, while the order to investigate the alleged crime was issued the day after the arrest. He was remanded in custody on November 25 due to the danger of fleeing, considering that Osmanović is not a citizen of Serbia.

Osmanović's war crimes trial began in June last year before the Belgrade Higher Court, when the indictee pleaded not guilty to charges of abusing civilians and prisoners of war at the Rasadnik camp in Gornji Rahić in the Brčko area of Bosnia and Herzegovina during the summer of 1992.
