SARAJEVO, October 28 (FENA) - President of the Party of Democratic Action (SDA) Bakir Izetbegović said after a meeting with the HDZ BiH President Dragan Čović today in Sarajevo that mediators from the international community are persistently trying to reduce the format of negotiations on amending the Election Law to negotiations between the HDZ and the SDA alone.
"I told them that this will not be possible hat because we need a two-thirds majority in the parliament in order to pass the constitutional amendments, thus ignoring the opposition from the left and civic-oriented parties would not be fair or wise," said Izetbegović.
He pointed out that there would be no negotiations exclusively between the HDZ and the SDA, but that today they would try to find a solution for the House of Peoples of the FBiH Parliament to protect the position of Croats, without imposing the will of the minority.
Izetbegović believes that it is necessary to avoid the possibility of repeating situations such as the recent ones with not appointing the FBiH Government and not filling in the Constitutional Court.
After the meeting, the HDZ BiH President Dragan Čović did not want to give statements to the media.
This morning, Izetbegović and Čović first held separate meetings with the Director of the European External Action Service (EEAS) Angelina Eichhorst and the US Special Envoy for Electoral Reform Matthew Palmer.
