Čović: I suggested to Izetbegović that we hold party meetings today and tomorrow

SARAJEVO, October 28 (FENA) - President of the Croat Democratic Union of BiH (HDZ BiH) Dragan Čović said today, after a meeting with EU and US representatives in Sarajevo, that legitimate representation of Croats in the House of Peoples of the BiH Parliament and the Presidency is enough for him, and the rest can be agreed later.

After meeting with Angelina Eichhorst, the Director of the European External Action Service (EEAS), and Matthew Palmer, the US Special Envoy for electoral reform, Čović pointed out that changes in the House of Peoples would mean significant changes to the Constitution, for which there is no power in BiH, just as there is no power to erase ethnic determinants.

“I am glad that the representatives of the EU and the USA said that we should agree, and they will support us,” stated Čović.

He added that he, therefore, suggested to his colleague Bakir Izetbegović to hold party meetings today and tomorrow.

Čović pointed out that one of the possible solutions is the indirect election of members of the Presidency, the other is two constituencies in FBiH exclusively on election day, or that it is related to cantons which are certainly part of the election process, but then they should have weights according to the census.

He emphasized that Milorad Dodik told him that the Serb side would support everything that is agreed in the Federation in the parliament.
