SARAJEVO, October 8 (FENA) - The Mental Health Project in Bosnia and Herzegovina is implemented by the Institute for Population and Development in cooperation with the entity ministries of health and is supported by the Government of Switzerland.

Every year, on October 10, the International Mental Health Day is celebrated with a wide campaign that draws attention to the importance of mental health, and especially the importance of investing in this health segment in terms of financial investments, strengthening resources, improving services, engaging society to improve in this area.

This year, the theme of the campaign is "Mental health in a world of inequality", with inequality referring to everything that affects mental health - poverty, gender, national, ethnic differences, differences based on sexual orientation, etc.

"The head of the UN recently spoke about the need to actually make a new social contract in the world; to recognize how much extreme poverty is present in the world today, how much extreme wealth there is, and how these differences are growing. As one of the key problems, differences based on race and status of women are recognized in the world today. All this leaves consequences on mental health," said the Director of the Mental Health Project in Bosnia and Herzegovina Dženita Hrelja Hasečić.

According to the data of the World Health Organization from 2020, one-third to a quarter of the population suffers from some kind of psychiatric problems, and among them, as many as 264 million people suffer from depression.

This is further exacerbated by the mass crisis caused by the pandemic, so the mental health of the general population is expected to be even worse than before.
