European courts have revealed political motives of Serbian indictments

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, September 13 (FENA) - The arrest of Edin Vranj, a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina, by the Serbian police is just the latest one in a series of calculated persecutions of citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina by the Serbian authorities, abusing the principle of universal jurisdiction in war crimes proceedings, it was said in a statement of the Chairman of the Presidency of BiH Željko Komšić and a member of the Presidency Šefik Džaferović.

As the two of them pointed out, the goal of the Serbian authorities is to revise the truth about the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina and to equalize the warring parties when it comes to the crimes committed.

"The fact that, on the one hand, the Serbian authorities are protecting the convicted war criminal Novak Đukić, as well as a number of suspects in the Srebrenica genocide and other crimes, and on the other hand continue the arrests of the members of the armed and police forces of the RBiH, clearly indicates that the goal it is not the prosecution of war crimes, but selective persecution with political motives," reads the statement.

They further state that the political background of such actions of the Serbian authorities has been previously revealed by courts in European countries, which, acting on the basis of indictments and arrest warrants from Serbia in the Ganić and Divjak cases, makes it obvious that these were politically motivated indictments and that these persons would not have had a fair and honest trial in Serbia.
