The 28th anniversary of crimes against Croat civilians in Grabovica marked

GRABOVICA, September 9 (FENA) - The laying of wreaths and Holy Mass of Remembrance on Thursday marked the 28th anniversary of the deaths of 33 Croat civilians who were killed in the village of Grabovica, between Mostar and Jablanica, on the night of September 8-9, 1993. members of the Army of RBiH.

The youngest victim of that crime was Mladenka Zadro, who was less than 4 years old, and the oldest, Marko Marić, was 87 years old.

Wreaths were laid by delegations of the Croatian National Parliament (HNS) of BiH, associations originating from the Homeland War, the Croatian component of the Armed Forces of BiH, and numerous representatives of the executive and legislative branches.

“We have been waiting for 28 years for everything that was sacrificed in BiH, and especially here in Grabovica, to make it easier to remember the sacrifice they made and not to have constant trauma in their families in an appropriate and dignified way,” said the president of HNS BiH Dragan Čović.

President of the Association of Killed Croat Civilians "Grabovica 93." Josip Drežnjak emphasized that Grabovica is one of the most tragic execution sites of the Croat people, but also a big stain in BiH because, as he said, "no one in this country, except us present, wants to wash away and bring peace to the souls of the killed and survivors."

Speaking on the occasion of the 28th anniversary of the massacre in this village, for which no command responsibility has been established, Drežnjak said that a case had been formed at the Prosecutor's Office.

“We handed over the evidence that we came across, that the outpost was in Jablanica, that these directives were signed by Sefer Halilović. The prosecution can tell us that these documents are not legitimate, that they are a forgery or something. At least there is something,” said the president of the Association of Croat Victims "Grabovica '93."

Disappointed families of the Grabovica victims continue their search for the truth, as well as for the remaining 17 bodies that have not yet been found.

Former members of the RBiH Army were held accountable before domestic courts in BiH for individual killings, but no one for war crimes against civilians or for command responsibility. To date, five members of the RBiH Army have been sentenced, Mustafa Hota has been sentenced to nine years in prison, Enes Šakrak to ten years, while Nihad Vlahovljak, Sead Karagić and Haris Rajkić have been sentenced to 13 years in prison each.

For the crime in Grabovica, the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia acquitted the Chief of the General Staff of the Supreme Command of the Army of RBiH, Sefer Halilović.
