BLED, September 2 (FENA) - Chairman and member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Željko Komšić and Šefik Džaferović talked today in Bled with the President of the Republic of Slovenia Borut Pahor about bilateral relations between the two countries and overall political relations in the Western Balkans.
They also discussed the European path of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in the context of Slovenian Presidency of the Council of the European Union and preparations for the upcoming "European Union - Western Balkans" summit, which should be held in October in Ljubljana.
Bosnia and Herzegovina Presidency member Šefik Džaferović told FENA after the meeting that they discussed Slovenia's role when it comes to BiH's European path.
Speaking about the overall visit to Bled and participation in the Bled Strategic Forum, Džaferović emphasized that the need to include all six countries of the Western Balkans in the European Union is now emphasized more than ever.
“It was said very clearly, as never before, that the European Union will not be complete until all the countries of the Western Balkans become members, and it was also said that as much as the Western Balkans countries need the EU, the European Union needs the countries of the Western Balkans,” Džaferović pointed out.
Džaferović believes that BiH institutions should function as prescribed by the Constitution and that the best way for BiH and all other countries in the Western Balkans is to become EU members as soon as possible.
“I would say the same for the NATO alliance, although there are some countries in the Western Balkans that have a different attitude towards the NATO alliance. For the entire Western Balkans, including BiH, the European Union means the rule of law, economic prosperity and respect for human rights and freedoms, and the NATO alliance is security,” said Džaferović.
As he concluded in a statement for FENA, that is exactly what all the peoples living in the countries of the Western Balkans need.
