Premiere of the documentary film 'Sava' at Sarajevo Film Festival

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, 16 August (FENA) - The Bosnian and Herzegovinian premiere of the documentary film "Sava", directed and produced by Matthew Somerville, will take place on August 17 at the Cineplexx as part of the Sarajevo Film Festival 2021.

Mira Furlan, an actress well known in the former Yugoslavia as well as abroad, lent her voice to the film's story, and is also the author of the text together with Dan McCrum and Matthew Somerville.

The musical theme for the film was written by Robin Schlochtermeier.

"Sava" is a documentary film in which Mira Furlan takes her voice through the former Yugoslavia, introducing people who share the same memories, dreams and visions. The film lasts 75 minutes and was shot in Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia.

This is Somerwill’s first feature film to graduate in documentary photography from Falmouth University in London. His fascination with the former Yugoslavia and the people living along the Sava River began during his first visit to the EXIT festival in Novi Sad.

He devoted a lot of time to studying the history of the region, social and political circumstances, and in 2013 he set off from London to Belgrade, traveling by car through villages and towns along the Sava River.

“I wanted to show that nature is more stable than any nation, it is there, it will stay there and the rivers will flow even when we are gone. Rivers connect people more than any flag, cultural customs or ethnicity. With this film, I want to show how the Sava River, the longest river in the former Yugoslavia, still connects people despite the new borders,” said Somerville, the SFF said.
