The biggest denier of genocide is Dodik, majority of cases of denial in Serbia

FENA Press release

SREBRENICA, July 9 (FENA) - The Srebrenica Memorial Center presented today the Annual Report on Genocide Denial, which included more than 234 acts of genocide denial in the public and media space of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region.

The report covered the period from 1 May 2020 to 1 May 2021, and was realized thanks to the support of the Government of the United Kingdom and the Heinrich Boll Foundation.

"In the reporting period, a total of 143 individuals were identified who denied genocide in the public space, of which in 132 cases they were private persons, while the other 11 cases were legal entities or groups of people. Most individuals are located in Serbia (84), BiH (38, of which 35 in the entity of Republika Srpska) and Montenegro (12). From all other countries, a total of nine cases were recorded," explained the editor of the Report, Lejla Gačanica.

Monica Hanson-Green worked on editing the English version of the Report, and various segments of the research were conducted by Tijana Cvjetićanin, Edin Ikanović, Adem Mehmedović and Kadira Šakić. Collaborators in the preparation of the Report were Emir Suljagić, Imer Muhović and Nedim Jahić.

"In the reporting period, 234 acts of genocide denial were identified in the public sphere in BiH and the region. Most of them took place in Serbia (142), in Bosnia and Herzegovina (60, of which 57 in the Republika Srpska entity) and Montenegro (19), and 14 in all other countries," it is said in the Report.

Most actors are in the field of politics (50), which includes political parties, and former and current political party and public officials, followed by persons working in the media and media organizations (39), persons and institutions in the field of education and science (13), various aspects of right-wing activism (nine), and in the field of culture and art (six).

It is a worrying finding that in 28 cases the person denying genocide were officials of the executive (16) or legislative (12) government, mostly in Serbia or Bosnia and Herzegovina's entity of Republika Srpska.

Among those provided with a public platform for genocide denial are those who had direct roles in the wars of the 1990s, including those who held political office (Momčilo Krajišnik, Nenad Kecmanović, Srđa Trifković), and those who commanded or participated in the formation and/or actions of military and paramilitary formations on the territory of BiH and Croatia (Veselin Šljivancanin, Milomir Savčić, Dragoslav Bokan, Nenad Stevandić, Rajko Vasić, Vojislav Šešelj), and, of course, Ratko Mladić.

Among the individual actors, the BiH Presidency member Milorad Dodik most often appears as a denier of genocide, it is stated in the Report complied by the Srebrenica Memorial Center.
