EAST SARAJEVO, July 5 (FENA) - Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Milorad Dodik said that the entity of Republika Srpska will not join the debate on how to elect members of the BiH Presidency in the Federation of BiH and that they are ready to agree within BiH on all necessary arrangements.
He said this at a press conference after a meeting with US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Matthew Palmer and Executive Director for Western Europe, Western Balkans, Turkey and the United Kingdom at the European External Action Service (EEAS) Angelina Eichhorst.
Dodik said that the main reason for the visit of international officials was election reform in BiH.
“Croats sent a message that they are ready to talk, some Bosniaks do not want to. They are waiting for international mediators, hoping that they will bring something and be only on one side. Of course, that does not happen and will not happen,” said Dodik.
He believes that the inclusion of the RS in the talks implies their 'loss of rights', and states that it is fair for the RS to wait for the political representatives of Bosniaks and Croats to agree, although they fail to find any concrete model agreement that would be sustainable regarding changes to the Election Law and the Constitution.
“I think that RS should come up with a new initiative, and that is to determine and propose that the President of the Republika Srpska and a member of the Presidency of BiH from RS be elected in one person in direct elections. That would contribute to functionality,” said Dodik.
He reminded that the Republika Srpska defined its position ten years ago and that nothing will change there i.e. the RS will remain in the direct election for a member of the Presidency from the ranks of the Serb people.
