Komšić: Brdo-Brioni Process should help countries in region to move faster to EU

BRDO NEAR KRANJ, May 17 (FENA) - The essence of the Brdo-Brioni Process is to help the countries of the region to move faster towards the European Union, said in a statement for FENA BiH Presidency member, Željko Komšić, who attended today's meeting of the leaders of this Process in Brdo near Kranj in Slovenia.

Komšić points out that in his presentation he focused on what Europe is asking of BiH, and that is the fulfillment of 14 priorities from the Opinion of the European Commission.

"This is what BiH needs, what it needs to do, and this new, let's call it conditionally, geopolitical approach to the region of the Western Balkans should be used in a way that European Union countries see us as their geopolitical interest, and not just to observe us through the formal, sometimes bureaucratic, fulfillment of the tasks set in Brussels," he said.

Komšić claims that the whole meeting went in the wrong direction at one point, with at times a painful and unpleasant discussion between the presidents of Kosovo and Serbia, and "of course", BiH Presidency Chairman Milorad Dodik joined in his "standard primitive way".

“Nothing new for us, but maybe it was new for these people. So the meeting ended in an atmosphere that Kosovo did not agree to the text of the joint statement, which is not good in the whole story, because I think that the role of both Slovenia and Croatia should have been used as "lawyers of the Western Balkans in Brussels",” Komšić concluded.
