EU donates around two million EUR for water supply projects in Jajce and Zvornik

SARAJEVO, April 20 (FENA) - Minister of Finance and Treasury of Bosnia and Herzegovina Vjekoslav Bevanda and Vice President of the European Investment Bank (EIB) Lilyana Pavlova signed today two agreements on EU grants related to water supply projects in Jajce and Zvornik. 

EU Special Representative for BiH and Head of the EU Delegation to BiH, Ambassador Johann Sattler also attended the signing ceremony, which was organized via a video link due to the epidemiological situation caused by coronavirus.

Minister Bevanda emphasized that 1.5 million euros of grant funds are allocated for the Municipality of Jajce from European Union funds, and 595,000 euros for the City of Zvornik, to support the already started existing projects.

According to Minister Bevanda, this grant, which was provided by the EU from its own funds, will improve the quality of life of the inhabitants of the Municipality of Jajce and the City of Zvornik and contribute to environmental protection.

"Practice has shown that the EIB implements projects resulted form the needs of ordinary people. Thus, this time, additional money was provided to improve the water supply in Jajce and Zvornik, where the population has a real problem with drinking water and environmental protection. These funds will help to significantly improve their quality of life," Minister Bevanda emphasized.

He added that the grants, provided by the EU for these two projects, will be implemented through the European Investment Bank and allocated to the Federation of BiH and Republika Srpska, the BiH Ministry of Finance and Treasury said.

EIB Vice President Lilyana Pavlova said that BiH is a key partner in the region for this bank, and that two billion euros have been invested in projects in the field of transport and small and medium-sized enterprises in the last decade.

Sattler emphasized that the EU stands by BiH, especially with such projects that are related to quality of life of citizens and environmental protection.

He reminded that in addition to today's agreements on the allocation of about two million euros in grants from IPA funds, six million euros were invested at the end of last year to support BiH in this area, and that he expects the gradual achievement of European standards.
