VITEZ, April 16 (FENA) - The families of those killed and numerous officials today paid tribute to 116 Bosniak civilians killed 28 years ago by members of the Croat Defense Council (HVO) in Ahmići near Vitez.

As the members of the families of the killed Ahmići residents repeated today, the bodies of 29 killed are still being searched for, and they warned that not all those responsible for this crime have been prosecuted.

The marketing of this sad anniversary was attended by a member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Šefik Džaferović, who reiterated that 116 civilians were brutally murdered, which is why we must never forget what happened there, but also elsewhere in BiH in the war from 1992 to 1995.

He says that many perpetrators of the crime in Ahmići, which was characterized as a crime against humanity, have still not been held accountable, but Džaferović reminds that the UNPROFOR commander who was here at the time said that it was genocide.

He assessed that it is worrying to see the paying of tribute to those who took part in the killings in Ahmići because it is not a way to live together and achieve civilization values.

The president of the Party of Democratic Action (SDA), Bakir Izetbegović, called the crime committed in Ahmici 28 years ago genocide because its goal was to kill every resident of Ahmići, from a three-month-old child, few-year-old children, women and other civilians.

"This today is a completely ethnically cleansed place. In order for such things not to happen again, those who devised it, who committed it, must be adequately punished. In the case of Ahmići, that did not happen," said Izetbegović, who also attended the anniversary marking today.

Six people were convicted of the war crime in Ahmići, of which the Hague Tribunal (ICTY) handed down five verdicts, including 25 years in prison to Dario Kordić, who was released after serving two-thirds of his sentence, while the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina convicted Paško Ljubičić and sentenced him to ten years in prison.
