SARAJEVO, April 9 (FENA) - A donation of 10,000 vaccines from the Republic of Serbia for the Sarajevo Canton was delivered today to the Sarajevo International Airport.
The donation was taken over by the Prime Minister of the SC Edin Forto, who stated that this donation in AstraZeneca vaccines will be distributed through the health system of the canton in the coming days.
He thanked the Minister of Health of Serbia, Zlatibor Lončar, and the Government of Serbia for donating 20,000 doses of the vaccine, of which the first batch was delivered today.
"The Sarajevo Canton government will offer the citizens of Serbia compensation in the equivalent of this donation, which will probably be in the form of tourism vouchers for staying in our hotels at the expense of the SC Government," said Forto.
Lončar pointed out that the coronavirus knows no borders and that they are aware that it will not be defeated if the population is vaccinated only in a certain country and that the problems remain in the neighboring countries.
"For that reason, we want to help everyone as much as possible, especially our friends, and that is the reason for this donation," stated Lončar.
The handover of the donation was also attended by the Minister of Health of the SC, Haris Vranić, who emphasized that the canton tried to buy vaccines in all possible ways, but that they did not succeed for already known reasons.
He added that the health institutions are ready to begin with mass vaccination and that so far more than 58,000 citizens in the canton have applied for vaccination.
