Women warn of gender-based violence with the exhibition of photographs

FENA

MOSTAR, March 29 (FENA) - The photo exhibition "Her photos tell stories" opened today in Mostar and Podgorica. The exhibition consists of photos created by women who experienced gender-based violence from Mostar and Nikšić, and they tell about their experience in photos and descriptions.

The mentioned exhibition is held as part of the project “Women’s voices against gender-based violence in Montenegro and BiH”, which was implemented to promote public dialogue to combat gender-based violence.

The project empowered 20 women with experience of gender-based violence to create photographs through "photo voices" workshops that faithfully and authentically reflect their experience.

President of the Association "Women of BiH" Mostar Arnela Buzaljko pointed out that violence has always existed and that it is spreading and that this project is a way to give women who have experienced violence the opportunity to say how they feel, what they think and what their needs and problems are and how they think their situation could be improved.

“The project is cross-border cooperation with our colleagues from the SOS line for women and children, victims of violence, from Nikšić and is financially supported by the UNPD, Dialogue for the Future and the UN Peacebuilding Fund. This is a pioneering project, women with experience of violence never before have been given such an active role that they themselves send their messages to people who are in positions, who are decision-makers and who can influence or are already influencing their position in any way,” said Buzaljko.

Namely, the photos were also found on postcards sent to 500 addresses, including those that have formal power and influence on public policies and practices in Montenegro and BiH.

She stated that the reactions were amazing because they were given such an opportunity.

According to her, they have pointed out so many times that this gathering alone and these "photo voices" workshops are worth much more than any other benefit.

“As they said: I saw that it did not happen only to me, I saw that it could happen to anyone else and that I am not the one to blame,” Buzaljko explained, emphasizing that these workshops encouraged them to fight for a better position in the society.

Also, as part of the project in Podgorica and Mostar, they set up billboards with selected photos at six locations.
