SARAJEVO, March 28 (FENA) - Signing of the Agreement between the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Government of the Republic of Turkey on cooperation in infrastructure and construction projects is a significant step in the implementation of the Sarajevo-Belgrade motorway construction project.

Minister of Communications and Transport of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Vojin Mitrović, who recently signed this agreement in Ankara, explained in an interview with FENA that the agreement has the basic character and topic of the construction of the Belgrade-Sarajevo-Belgrade motorway, whereby the framework of the agreement envisages the possibility of construction of other construction facilities, primarily those accompanying, but also other construction facilities that are needed by public institutions or public companies.

He reminded that the works on the Belgrade-Sarajevo-Belgrade motorway have already begun in 2019 when the President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić laid the foundation stone.

According to him, one of the topics of this agreement was the financing of this project, as well as all other projects listed in the agreement, whereby we required from Turkey that the loans provided for the financing of these projects be on much more favorable terms than to other financiers such as the World Bank, the European Investment Bank, the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

“What is also defined in this agreement is that Turkish companies or companies that have begun work on the construction of this part have the priority in the construction of at least this part of the Belgrade - Sarajevo – Belgrade motorway. At this moment, it is the company 'Tasyapi' and they will certainly work on this section from Rača to Bijeljina,” stated Minister Mitrović.

He said that the construction of the bridge on the Sava River is progressing according to the planned dynamics and that the completion of that bridge is planned for the fall of next year.

In a conversation with FENA, he also spoke about the Memorandum of Understanding on the roadmap for 5G digital transformations of the six economies of the Western Balkans, which was signed last year.

He says that the Ministry will monitor the implementation of the 4G network and will take into account the frequency spectrum required for the 5G network.

Minister Mitrović also referred to the operation of BHANSA during the coronavirus pandemic, stating that in the previous period, i.e. in 2020, due to the pandemic, air traffic was largely reduced, as well as all other types of transport.

"First of all, I mean passenger traffic, because they are related to vacations and trips of both businessmen and others. Also, one of the reasons is the measures taken by individual countries, given the movement of population between individual countries. So the air traffic, both freight and passenger, has really been drastically reduced. Last year, BHANSA had a realization of planned revenues of around 47 percent," said Minister Mitrović.
