SARAJEVO, March 24 (FENA) - One of the key arguments of the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the indictment in the ventilators procurement case, in which the Prime Minister of the Federation of BiH Fadil Novalić and others have been charged, is that the machinery is useless and cannot be used to help to treat the patients infected with coronavirus.

Sebija Izetbegović, Director General of the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo KCUS, testified at a hearing held today.

Answering the question of the attorney Vasvija Vidović whether the ventilators, which are the subject of the indictment, are in use today, she answered in the affirmative, explaining that all 30 ventilators, which KCUS received from the FBiH Civil Protection Administration, have been used for invasive and non-invasive treatment of patients, and that they are installed in the intensive care unit.

The prosecutor commented that they saw the photos in the media without further presenting evidence that the ventilators were useless. During the questioning, he referred to the Viber correspondence between the FBiH Government Secretary Edita Kalajdžić and the FBiH Prime Minister's head of office, Hasan Ganibegović, who is part of the analysis of the Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA), proving that Izetbegović claimed that ventilators were of bad quality at the time of the purchase.

Kalajdžič then claimed that they were "in a big trouble", to which Izetbegović replied that she had never commented those specific ventilators with anyone, except for one article published on the Klix portal, from which it was not clear which ventilators were procured.

To the prosecutor's allegations that she was the person referred to as "Seb." from the message, Izetbegović denied it, as she also denied any communication with Prime Minister Fadil Novalić and Director of the Civil Protection Administration Fahrudin Solak on the matter.

During her testimony, Izetbegović explained the circumstances in March last year when the pandemic started. All medical equipment was missing, and the European Union banned the export of medical equipment, including ventilators, which is why they were in a panic at KCUS. She also said that she talked about it with everyone, from neighbors to colleagues, to my hairdresser because "they were all worried", but she denied that she talked about it with Novalić and Solak.

The first question of the prosecutor to Izetbegović's first was about her political affiliation, to which the defense and the presiding judge of the Trial Chamber reacted. The prosecutor said it was important because they were making the case that this was political corruption, but Chairwoman Džemila Begović told him that the Chamber would try the case on the basis of evidence.
