Komšić: CoE demands that we eliminate discrimination against citizens

SARAJEVO, March 12 (FENA) - BiH Presidency member Željko Komšić welcomed the decision of the Committee of the Council of Ministers of the Council of Europe regarding the non-implementation of the judgment of the European Court of Human Rights in the 'Sejdić-Finci' case and other related judgments in which the existence of systemic discrimination in Bosnia and Herzegovina was established.

"It is especially important to point out that with this decision of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Ministers we received another confirmation of the accuracy of our positions that it is necessary to reform the Constitution and Election Law of Bosnia and Herzegovina in order to eliminate systemic discrimination. On the other hand, even today we have attitudes that come mostly from the HDZ, which through their methodology of imaginary 'legitimate political representation of the people' would introduce additional discrimination and thus distance Bosnia and Herzegovina from Euro-Atlantic integration," said Komšić.

BiH Presidency member said that even their idea that all citizens of this country can run but that the election will come from ethnic constituencies is another confirmation that they are trying to preserve discrimination in the constitutional and electoral system of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in order to provide themselves with space to have eternal power, which is a classic expression of totalitarian systems. That is why it is important to gather all political forces, which really want an accelerated path of our country within Euro-Atlantic integration, and in this way we express our readiness to reform the Constitution of BiH, and later the Election Law of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in which all rights of all citizens of this country will be guaranteed, which includes their political rights within the electoral system.

 According to him, this country needs full democracy, not the limited one we have now.

“Without that, there will be no progress of Bosnia and Herzegovina towards the European Union,” Komšić pointed out.
