SARAJEVO, March 8 (FENA) - The exhibition titled "Women Humanitarians" opened today at the Museum of Literature and Performing Arts of BiH in Sarajevo, organized by the French Embassy and the French Institute in BiH, on the occasion of March 8 - International Women's Day.

The Ambassador of France to BiH, Christine Toudic, opened the exhibition saying that the goal was to bring into the focus women who are very often left in the shadows, as their work is not directly visible.

She added that these are women who participate in humanitarian work, and that is something that does not bring enough profit and is often thus not appreciated enough.

"Tonight, we will have the opportunity, through this exhibition, to see powerful women who help others," said Ambassador Toudic.

She noted that the exhibition will travel throughout the country.

"That is the goal because culture is something that moves and surpasses the barriers. Today is a symbolic day when we open it herein this museum, on March 8 - Women's Day, and that is why I am especially glad to be here," said Ambassador Toudic.

The exhibition was created in collaboration with nine French NGOs operating internationally and presents a variety of missions in which women help the world's most vulnerable ones.

The exhibition "Women Humanitarians" reminds us, the ambassador stated, that women have their place in all sectors and all professions, whether they are in logistics, health experts, mediators, educators, project managers, deminers ...

"Gender equality and women's empowerment can be achieved only with their full involvement as active participants in society, and this can only happen through general mobilization," said Ambassador Toudic.

She added that today, through this exhibition, "we want to pay tribute to all women who work every day for others and for society as a whole."

"We want to give them recognition especially today, but also understand that we need to give them recognition every other day," said the French ambassador.

Director of the Museum of Literature and Performing Arts of BiH, Šejla Šehabović, said that the Museum has been working on special feminist programs in BiH for years.

"This exhibition differs from our work concerning the local history of women, it shows the state of women on the move, the state of women's work. Historically, it is very important that the first women joined in organizations that were really engaged in humanitarian work," said Šehabović.

Today’s women humanitarians directly risk their own lives and their own bodies in the fight against general social lethargy and neglect.

The exhibition at the Museum of Literature and Performing Arts is open until March 15.
