SARAJEVO, March 8 (FENA) – BiH Minister of Human Rights and Refugees Miloš Lučić congratulated all women in BiH on the occasion of International Women’s Day, March 8, wishing to continue the fight for equality because they are often discriminated against just because they are women, announced the Ministry.
“A woman is an irreplaceable support in preserving the family, a pillar of society and a driver of overall social progress, and her aspiration to fight for her equality is justified and deserved, and that is why we must support her and provide her with all necessary support and protection along the way. The Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees has a special role in gender equality and protection of women,” it is said in the congratulatory message.
Lučić further states that today women face many challenges, which, above all, relate to job retention, education and access to health services. They are often unfairly paid less than their male counterparts, discriminated against in career development and unfortunately exposed to inappropriate sexist behavior and comments.
In addition to all this, the Covid-19 pandemic leaves numerous and profound consequences on women as the number of cases of violence against women has increased due to the introduced measures and domestic isolation. Unfortunately, women today are exposed to various forms of physical violence and psychological abuse.
“Our obligation as a society is to point out the severity and negative consequences of violence against women and the discrimination they face every day and join them in the fight for a better society in which they will be equal and respected,” concluded Minister Lučić.
