Izetbegović: Idea of free BiH was not shaken by the most difficult challenges

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, February 28 (FENA) - In the past three decades, Bosnia and Herzegovina has come a long and difficult way, and the most important step on that path was on March 1, 1992, the day when citizens decided to live in a sovereign and independent Bosnia and Herzegovina, a state of equal citizens and peoples, said in a congratulatory message President of the Party of Democratic Action (SDA) Bakir Izetbegović.

He reminded that almost two-thirds of Bosnians and Herzegovinians of different nationalities and religions voted for freedom and independence by going to the historic referendum in 1992, and showed faith in the idea of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which was not shaken by the most difficult challenges that followed.

“The best and bravest among us gave their lives to defend that idea, to defend the freedom and civilizational values on which the modern world rests. That is why every day, and especially on March 1, we need to remember those who lost their lives for the foundations of BiH,” Izetbegović states in his congratulatory message.

He says that because of them, but also because of the present and all future generations, we have an obligation to continue the fight that started on March 1, 1992, and to build the future of Bosnia and Herzegovina as a sovereign, stable and prosperous state, a member of the European Union and NATO.

“I wholeheartedly extend congratulations to all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the country and diaspora on the occasion of March 1, the Independence Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” Izetbegović wrote.
