The building of Sarajevo Music Academy gets a renovated, fresh new look

SARAJEVO, February 23 (FENA) - Today, the Prime Minister of the Sarajevo Canton Edin Forto, the school principal Tatjana Romanić, Swedish Ambassador to BiH Johanna Stromquist, Resident Representative of the UN Development Program in BiH Steliana Nedera, marked the completion of energy efficiency works and renovation of the building of the Secondary Music School/Music Academy Sarajevo by unveiling the plaque made especially for this event.

The school building got a new facade, thermal and sound insulation, carpentry was also replaced, the roof was reconstructed, a new gas boiler room was installed, which overall results in a very sustainable investment in the amount of 715,951 KM.

The works were done with the financial support of the Government of Sweden, the Government of the Sarajevo Canton, UNDP, and the Municipality of Stari Grad.

Director of the Music Academy Sarajevo, Tatjana Romanić, expressed her content with the completion of the project, and said that for the three institutions that reside in that facility, a large investment will contribute to a better quality of work, and young people will be given the opportunity to study in better conditions.

"Before the renovation, working conditions for employees and students were very difficult. During the winter, we worked in very cold rooms, and in the summer in very warm ones, and besides that, traffic noise was something constant," Romanić explained.  

More than a thousand people go through the building every day because the secondary music school has about 140 students, the elementary school 500 of them, and the same number of goes for those that are students or staff of the music academy.

She announced that future projects will be focused on providing better lighting, and due to the age of the building, its remaining interior will also be renovated.

Prime Minister of the Sarajevo Canton, Edin Forto, stated that the canton participated in that project with 300,000 KM, with partners, and that this is a model that will be applied in the entire canton.

"In this way, the Sarajevo Canton will renovate 40 public buildings, and the focus will be on educational institutions: kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, faculties, student centers and health centers. The planned investment is around 20 million KM," announced Prime Minister Forto.

He stressed that the emphasis of such projects is multiple - energy savings, buildings look nicer and people are happier, and in addition to that, this will bring new jobs for domestic companies.

Swedish Ambassador to BiH Johanna Stromquist expressed satisfaction that the building of the Music Academy has received a new look, and said that they support the efforts of the Government of SC to reduce air pollution.

"Making the public buildings energy-efficient is a way to achieve air pollution reduction. The building of the Music Academy is one of 64 public buildings that are now energy-efficient, thanks to the 'Green Economic Development' project," she pointed out.

She announced the second phase of the project that focuses on the warming of residential, industrial and a number of public buildings.

The UNDP Resident Representative in BiH Steliana Nedera believes that due to the complex execution of works, the warming project of the Music Academy lasted a long time, but as she said, as of today, everyone who works and studies at the Music Academy will have better working, stay and schooling conditions.

She announced that the fight against climate change is a priority, and during this year, UNDP will work with the Government of Sweden and the Government of the Sarajevo Canton on energy efficiency projects on private residential buildings.
