USAID representatives on a two-day visit to Tuzla Canton

FENA Press release

TUZLA, February 18 (FENA) - Representatives of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) are on a two-day visit to the Tuzla Canton (TC). This morning they met with the Prime Minister of that canton, line Minister and representatives of the TC Tourist Board and presented the Tourism Recovery Tactical Plan.

The Plan is within the USAID Developing Sustainable Tourism in Bosnia & Herzegovina project worth 20 million dollars. As part of the visit to the City of Tuzla, a tour of the Pannonian Lakes complex was organized.

USAID representatives presented a five-year project for the development of sustainable tourism in BiH to the Tuzla Canton Government delegation and Prime Minister Kadrija Hadžić.

The goal is to start economic development through the recovery and improvement of the tourism sector. As it was pointed out today, the Tuzla Canton represents a wealth of authentic diversity of natural and cultural-historical values.

USAID Project Manager Dobrila Vukmanović said that the mentioned project started in the fall last year, adding that it will deal with promotion and development of tourism in BiH.

“This is one of the largest USAID projects recently, both in the country and in the region. Our intention is to achieve and bring in new investors by implementing what we have designed, to facilitate public-private partnerships and in any case to help train workers from the tourism sector. We will also promote access to finance. We know that this is a big problem for the private sector and investors who want to invest in our country. We will be present in this region for the next 5 years and we are glad to work with the Tuzla Canton and the Tourist Board,” said Vukmnović.

Head of the office of the Tourist Board of TC Miralem Mešković pointed out that Tuzla Canton abounds in tourist potentials, and that in the next five years they will try to promote Tuzla and Tuzla Canton in the most adequate way. The great potential of our canton is health tourism, which is also an opportunity to promote and unite public-private partnerships.

After the meeting in the Government of the Tuzla Canton, USAID representatives visited the Pannonian Lakes complex in Tuzla during the day. Mayor Jasmin Imamović expressed his hopes that Tuzla will get part of the funds and invited the delegation to visit the Pannonian Lakes again in late spring and early summer.
