Novalić: Construction of motorway through large areas creates problems

SARAJEVO, February 18 (FENA) – FBiH Prime Minister Fadil Novalić said today that the construction of the motorway through large areas creates certain problems, which was shown by the example of the Zenica bypass.

At a press conference in Sarajevo after the FBiH Government session, Novalić reminded that more than ten years ago Zenica strongly opposed the passage of the motorway where it was originally planned, almost the same as under the pre-war project, through the city of Zenica, the current M17 road.

According to him, that was the optimal, cheapest solution and it was reserved land. Under pressure from the Zenica city administration, the designers moved the motorway to an area where the ground is unstable, above the city of Zenica.

“This is unstable land and it was obviously, in a professional sense, a wrong decision ten or 12 years ago. Today we have to deal with it, stabilize that road and in my opinion, it was a mistake to open that section prematurely, so before everything is arranged, all landslides are stabilized so that the Ministry of Physical Planning can issue a permit,” said Novalić, answering a reporter's question.
