Draft law on gas pipeline adopted for purpose of safer supply

SARAJEVO, January 28 (FENA) - After the House of Representatives of the Parliament of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, at today's session, the House of Peoples also adopted the Draft Law on Gas Pipeline "Southern Interconnection Bosnia and Herzegovina - Republic of Croatia".

It was explained that by providing an additional source, a very important project of safer gas supply in FBiH should be realized, and this law should ensure faster passage of 'paperwork' to appropriate levels since the construction of the pipeline requires expropriation in certain areas of the Federation, issuing permits and other administrative acts.

"The Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina is currently supplied with natural gas from only one direction and only one source, using a transport pipeline that crosses the border between Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina in Šepak, and continues to Zvornik, Kladanj, Sarajevo, Zenica, and Travnik. Apart from the fact that the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina is dependent on only one source and direction of supply, the existing gas pipeline, built in 1979, is obsolete and overloaded during the winter periods, when gas consumption is highest," the Government stated.

As they note, the construction of a new gas interconnection. i.e. the "Southern Interconnection Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Croatia" in the direction Zagvozd (Republic of Croatia) - Posušje (Bosnia and Herzegovina) - Tomislavgrad - Šuica - Kupres - Bugojno - Novi Travnik/Travnik, with a branch in Mostar, it is recognized as a project of the highest priority for the Federation of BiH.

"This project is included in all key strategic, planning, and development documents adopted at the level of FBiH and Bosnia and Herzegovina, including the Framework Energy Strategy of BiH until 2035, the Framework Energy Strategy of FBiH until 2035, and the Public Investment Program of the Federation 2020-2022", stated the FBiH Government in a press release.
