SARAJEVO, January 28 (FENA) - Director of the Agency for Personal Data Protection of BiH Dragoljub Reljić said that the focus of the Agency this year will be on the adoption of a new Law on Personal Data Protection, ratification of Convention 108+, which is considered the European basis for privacy ordinances relating to the internal organization of that agency.
Today, for the twelfth year in a row, the Agency has marked January 28, European Data Protection Day or Data Privacy Day, the purpose of which is to raise public awareness of the right to protection of personal data and privacy, as fundamental values of every democratic society and essential aspect of human rights.
"We have set ambitious goals for this year, and the first and most important is the adoption of the new Law on Personal Data Protection in BiH. By signing the Stabilization and Association Agreement, we have undertaken the obligation to harmonize the protection of personal data with the EU acquis, i.e. European legislation and other international conventions. This was done in 2006, but in the meantime, the European Parliament passed new regulations and improved the protection of personal data of all its citizens," Reljić noted today at a press conference in Sarajevo.
The new EU data protection rules include the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the Police Directive on the transfer of data for police and judicial purposes, and the modernized Convention 108+.
During the last year, the Agency received more than 400 calls to its "help desk", where citizens were provided with information related to the protection of their personal data.
