HJPC: Intensification of process to improve the work of judicial institutions

SARAJEVO, January 11 (FENA) - Improving the efficiency, quality, independence and transparency of the judiciary, which leads to creation of a functional and efficient judicial system, will be the focus of the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of Bosnia and Herzegovina (HJPC) in the coming period.

In cooperation with the Swedish Judicial Administration, the Swedish Enforcement Agency, BiH courts and sister courts from Sweden, and with the financial support of the Swedish Government, the HJPC will work intensively in the next three years through “Improving Court Efficiency and Accountability of Judges and Prosecutors” project in BiH on the implementation of activities that lead to the improvement of the efficiency of the judiciary and ensuring equal access to justice and equality of all citizens before the law, the HJPC BiH said.

Based on the results of the conducted analyses, an assessment was made of the segments in which more proactive and reform action is necessary, in order for the set goals to be ultimately realized. Therefore, the focus of the planned activities will be on increasing the efficiency of judicial institutions, through planned activities and the establishment of a more efficient organization of work processes.

At the same time, intensive work will be done on establishing a system for monitoring the performance of existing work capacities in courts, analyzing the procedure for appeals in civil proceedings, improving executive procedure in judicial systems in BiH, improving gender equality in BiH justice and the position of vulnerable groups in contact with justice, as well as on establishing proactive communication with the media and the public in order to increase the transparency of the work of courts.

Changes in the work of courts will be reflected through the introduction of new methodologies, and cooperation has already been established with a number of courts from all over BiH that will approach this form of reform process, the HJPC BiH said in a statement.
