Zvizdić: Key problems fear of reforms and those blocking NATO path of BiH

SARAJEVO, December 27 (FENA) - The key problem and challenge for BiH is both the fear of reforms and those political options that are declaratively committed to EU integration, while at the same time trying to block the NATO path, said in an interview with FENA Deputy Speaker of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly Denis Zvizdić.

Asked whether the House of Representatives of the PABiH had an adequate response to the problems caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Zvizdić said that he thought that the response of the executive and legislative bodies at all levels, not only the level of state institutions, was inadequate, untimely and insufficiently structured regarding the health sector and the most affected branches of the economy.

“At a time when human lives are at stake and most economic flows are slowed or disrupted, leaving thousands of vital jobs lost, citizens expect governments and parliaments to show leadership with a clear vision and effective decisions, plans and measures, which is unfortunate in the case of the Council of Ministers and the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH, it was completely absent,” said Zvizdić.

When it comes to BiH's Euro-Atlantic path, Zvizdić says that most of the activities on BiH's EU integration path that have been realized or will be realized in the next year are based on measurable and credible progress made by the Council of Ministers in the last term.

“Then we adopted key national strategies in the field of transport, energy, agriculture and environment, we successfully implemented a very demanding European Commission Questionnaire for BiH with more than four thousand questions, removed BiH from the blacklists of Moneyval and FATF, improved economic and security situation , as well as regional cooperation, and finally received a positive response to the ‘Opinion on BiH's application for EU membership’, with clearly identified fourteen priorities that BiH needs to meet in order to receive a recommendation to open accession negotiations with the European Union continuous progress on the path of NATO integration and the possibility that in the next year, if there are no political obstructions and blockades, we will get candidate status on the path of EU integration, which would significantly strengthen and enhance the overall integration efforts of BiH,” he said.

According to Zvizdić, the key challenges facing the BiH Parliament on the Euro-Atlantic path next year are in the political options that predominantly come from the RS and are part of the ruling coalitions, and declaratively advocate for BiH's EU integration, while at the same time fully block NATO integration of BiH.
