SARAJEVO, December 25 (FENA) - The Archbishop of Vrhbosna, Coadjutor Monsignor Tomo Vukšić, headed the Christmas Vigil Mass last night in the Sarajevo Cathedral of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, together with the exemplary Vinko Cardinal Puljić.
Due to the ban on movement after 23.00 hours, the Mass began at 20.00 hours and gathered a small number of believers, who, despite the coronavirus pandemic, came to joyfully celebrate the arrival of the feast of the birth of Jesus.
The celebration of the Mass began with the festive song "Rejoice, peoples" performed by the Cathedral Choir. At the very beginning of the service, Monsignor Tomo Vukšić greeted the priests, nuns, the choir, and all other believers, wishing them to experience an encounter with God this night and to ask God for repentance.
During the sermon, Monsignor Vukšić said that Christmas is a time when God is in a special way close to man, and man to God, in a spiritual way, all for his salvation.
“Christmas is an incentive for every family to get closer and love each other and give new life. We pray to Jesus for the happiness of all families in the creation of man,” said Monsignor Vukšić.
As a Christmas message, Vukšić said that he who wants to be close to God, must do the same thing that God did, and that is to become a man.
“I wish you all a Merry Christmas and hope you will spend it in happiness and joy,” he said.
Midnight Mass traditionally announces the arrival of Christmas, which, according to the new reckoning of time, is marked as the day of the birth of Jesus Christ.
The celebration of Christmas is a family holiday and is mostly celebrated in the circle of family and loved ones.
