MOSTAR, December 21 (FENA) - The President of the Croatian National Assembly (HNS), Dragan Čović, sent a letter to international officials in BiH warning that the election process in Mostar was under threat.
"Yesterday, the citizens of Mostar participated in a historic day when, after 12 years, they had the opportunity to express their free will and democratically elect their city government. Your contribution in this regard is extremely appreciated, as well as the proven commitment to do everything in your power to ensure that the elections in Mostar are conducted in a fair and equitable manner, in accordance with European standards and good practices. Your statements and presence in Mostar on election day are a great encouragement.
That is why it is my duty to share with you the latest information regarding the threat to the integrity of the election process in Mostar. Namely, in the previous correspondence, we clearly warned of the justified fear of compromising the election results, both during the elections themselves and subsequently during the counting of votes after the polls closed. You yourself know that the greatest risk of fraud is present at that time, due to less supervision and physical control of ballots and their counting. It is in this part of our concern, unfortunately, proved to be justified," says Čović in the letter.
A large number of Croats, as he points out, went out yesterday and supported the elections in Mostar, and "our last night's projections show that we as a party won at least 20,000 votes. The election process until 17.00 hours. However, after 17.00 hours, the system collapses and the will of the voters' will changes, which is happening at this moment as I address you with this letter."
The letter was addressed to US Ambassador Eric Nelson, Head of the EU Mission to BiH Johann Sattler, followed by Kathleen Kavalec, Ambassador of the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Valentin Inzko, High Representative.
