Position of marginalized groups in BiH is endangered

SARAJEVO, December 17 (FENA) - The position of marginalized groups in BiH is very endangered, it was pointed out today in Sarajevo at the round table "Implementation of the Action Plan for the implementation of the Declaration of Marginalized Groups in BiH" held by the Foundation for Social Inclusion in BiH within the project "Capacity Building of Civil Society Organizations for Active Advocacy of the Role of Marginalized Groups in the Process of Accession to the European Union".

The project was supported by the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in BiH with the aim of engaging marginalized groups united by an unfavorable social position on a wider social level.

Ranka Ninković Papić, director of the Foundation for Social Inclusion in BiH, said that this project, which is a continuation of the project from 2018/2019, focuses on improving the position of marginalized groups.

“In this cycle that we are working until April 2021, it is strengthening the capacity of civil society organizations that deal with or work with marginalized groups, but in the process of joining the EU. This round table is in a way focused on Chapter 19, social policy and employment and what was in the previous round, which is the Declaration of Marginalized Groups. We always return to the beginning of the story, and that is to improve the position of these social groups and in some way to prepare them for the process of joining the EU,” said Papić.

In the Analytical Report, the European Commission assessed that social policy is in the group of the worst prepared areas. The critical emphasis is focused on the situation of children, where it was pointed out that "almost a third of children (31.6%) aged five to 15 are at risk of poverty", that the application of regulations prohibiting discrimination against women "in practice is extremely low", and the like.

The director of the initiative for better and more humane inclusion in BiH, Žarko Papić, points out that the position of marginalized groups is very endangered and the general situation around the recommendations of the European Union is very bad because nothing has been done for a year and a half.

“For the last five years, we have no data on poverty in BiH. Half a year ago, the World Bank estimated that 20 percent of the population was below the absolute poverty line. When it comes to poverty, BiH is the penultimate in Europe. If the average material consumption of the population in the EU 100 in BiH is 41, that is more than twice less. The purpose of this project is to activate the most endangered marginalized groups in the fight for their existential interests,” pointed out Žarko Papić.
