Komšić: Mostar is symbol of BiH and is above party politics

FENA

MOSTAR, December 17 (FENA) - President of the Democratic Front (DF) and member of the Presidency of BiH Željko Komšić was in Mostar on Thursday, where he supported the candidates of the Coalition for Mostar (SDA, SBB, DF, SBiH, BPS) in the upcoming elections for the Mostar City Council.

At a press conference, Komšić said that the agreement on holding elections in Mostar was not perfect, but that agreement resulted in holding local elections, and that the citizens of Mostar were given the opportunity to elect their political representatives in the city authorities after 12 years of a political standoff.

“The basic policy of the DF is that everything that is in the general interest, everything that is Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Mostar is one of the symbols of Bosnia and Herzegovina, is more important than anything else. Mostar is above party politics, above the DF as a political party, and none of you will be asked to sacrifice the general interest for party interest,” said Komšić.

Accompanied by Komšić, his adviser and president of the Serbian political party LDP, Čedomir Jovanović, arrived in Mostar.

“Mostar is Bosnia in a nutshell and the happiness of my Serbia depends on the happiness of Bosnia. I am sorry that the elections are taking place in such an atmosphere, that there are so many unnecessary tensions in a divided, burdened city, facing an uncertain future. Unfortunately, this is the case in the entire region, and if things need to change somewhere, let it first be in Mostar,” said Jovanović.

He added that in the Coalition for Mostar, he recognized a city that no longer exists, but that can be re-created.

“Here, time seems to have stopped, half of the city has been destroyed… Changes are possible, and Sunday's elections are the first step towards these changes. This city will be the happiest when Serbs, and Croats, and Bosniaks, live with each other, solve problems together and stand by each other in tumultuous times,” said Jovanović.
