International Human Rights Day - 7,200 'people without an address' in BiH

SARAJEVO, December 10 (FENA) - Another 7,200 internally displaced and socially vulnerable people live in collective centers in BiH, and therefore the Union for Sustainable Return and Integration is dedicating today's celebration of International Human Rights Day to people from collective centers.

“Even 25 years after the Dayton Agreement, 'people without an address' are waiting with less and less hope to get a roof over their heads and replace the collective center with a home. During those 25 years in the collective centers, those who were brought by their mothers to the collective centers by their hand grew up and became parents whose children grow up in conditions of refugee life that practically encompasses three generations. Thus, grandparents now live in collective centers, with their children and grandchildren. Most of them are elderly and sick people of all nationalities, displaced with minimal or no income,” the president of the Union for Sustainable Return and Integration Mirhunisa Zukić told FENA.

Therefore, on the occasion of the International Human Rights Day, the Union expresses its expectation and sends a message to the authorities to implement the project of building 2,600 housing units in 45 cities, including the Brčko District, for which a loan has been secured from the European Development Bank.

This would mean that people from collective centers finally exercise the elementary right to have a home.

Now they are ‘people without an address’ which is the title of a documentary made by the Union for Sustainable Return and Integration in collective centers and it’s available on the following link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oT2fue-Mq88&feature=youtu.be
