SARAJEVO, November 30 (FENA) - The Center for Policies and Management (CPU) called on all competent institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina to make the necessary decisions without delay that will enable the participation of BiH students in the international PISA survey.
The Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as it is stated, has not yet made a decision on the participation of BiH students in the international PISA survey which measures the ability of 15-year-olds to use reading, mathematics, and science skills to cope with real-life challenges.
This research should be conducted in 2022, and the CPU invited everyone who advocates for better education in BiH, to join them in this initiative, and to demand from the authorities that the PISA survey in 2022 not bypass BiH.
In the last 15 years, BiH has participated only three times in international student testing, TIMMS (Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study) in 2007 and 2019, and PISA in 2018.
In the case of the published reports TIMSS 2007 and PISA 2018, the results gave a devastating message that BiH primary education system does not enable the development of important abilities of children or, more simply, the education system is of poor quality.
"Not only did nine years of schooling not enable half of the students to achieve the minimum level of functional knowledge, but the percentage of students who achieved basic skills in all three areas that would enable them to successfully continue their education is also extremely low - only nine percent of students are prepared for further successful education," said the CPU.
"Unwillingness of the authorities to agree, approve, and finance the participation of BiH schools and students in the PISA survey, is a clear indication that education is low on their list of priorities, but also their lack of understanding of the importance of education as a basic factor in human capital development and creating the necessary basis for economic development and living standards," concluded the CPU.
