Izetbegović: Everyone learned a good lesson at the Security Council session

SARAJEVO, November 26 (FENA) - President of the Party of Democratic Action (SDA) and Deputy Speaker of the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiHPA) Bakir Izetbegović said yesterday that online session of the United Nations Security Council was important for BiH and that some showed their true views on it, but then stepped away.

The session was organized by Russian Ambassador to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzy, who currently heads the Security Council, and was attended by leaders of the Croat Democratic Union (HDZ) and the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD) Dragan Čović and Milorad Dodik, while Izetbegović rejected to attend, warning of the fact that the Presidency of BiH should have been invited to it.

“We could hear Čović telling to give up the third entity and insinuations in that regard. Dodik, who was very aggressive and impudent and who tried to talk to world diplomats in his own style, and then finally said that he was ready to go with the High Representative in BiH Valentin Inzko and remove the plaque with the name of war criminal Radovan Karadžić in Pale,” Izetbegović reminded.

However, says Izetbegović, Dodik ended completely differently than he started, emphasizing that it was a good decision for him not to attend that meeting in a form that disintegrates and disavows BiH institutions.

If Izetbegović had attended that meeting, it would be according to the principle: "we will not elect members of the Presidency of BiH Šefik Džaferović and Željko Komšić as it was done in Zagreb and Belgrade, that is, we will elect a little from the Presidency and a little bit from the House of Peoples".

When asked whether Dodik will fulfill the promise to remove the plaque with Radovan Karadžić’s name, Izetbegović says that Dodik is a pragmatic man who plays as rudely and arrogantly as he can, and when that doesn't work, he changes.

He believes that by promising to remove the plaque, Dodik may have tried to reduce the pressure and continue with the same policies, but Izetbegović believes that Dodik will be gradually defeated, i.e. that the policy he proclaims will be defeated because it causes great damage to Republika Srpska, the Serbian people and BiH as a whole.

The ambassadors of many countries to the Security Council, including the United States, Germany, Austria, Britain, France, Italy, Belgium and others, condemned Dodik's views and address, giving support to the High Representative.

Among other things, Russia's decision not to invite members of the BiH Presidency to that session was condemned, and it was said that BiH institutions must be strengthened, not weakened.
