Izetbegović: We need to stop arguing and blocking

SARAJEVO, November 22 (FENA) - Members of the Collegium of the House of Representatives and the House of Peoples of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly met yesterday with the Vice President of the European Commission and High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell.

Deputy Speaker of the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH, Bakir Izetbegović, said that there were no special conclusions at the meeting, but all participants gave their opinion on the most important issues for BiH.

“I did not want to repeat that the Dayton Agreement brought peace, but not a definitive solution for BiH. I focused on what needs to be done, that is, to stop working in order to make progress. It is obvious that we need to stop the counterproductive quarrels that bother this society and drive young people out of BiH. The blockades need to be stopped, as is the case with the semi-blocked Parliamentary Assembly. The formation of the FBiH level of government has been blocked for two years,” said Izetbegović after the meeting.

He points out that it is also necessary to stop denying the truth, the verdicts of the courts established by the United Nations, as well as the denial of genocide and the glorification of war criminals.

“This is the country in which Karadžić is decorated and where the student dormitory in Pale is named after him. These are terrible things and such mistakes should be stopped. Strikes on the OHR and the international community, the Constitutional Court and judges should be stopped,” he explained.

He believes that it is necessary to intensify the Euro-Atlantic path of BiH, primarily the European path, and that it is necessary to establish the rule of law.

“We must monitor and introduce European standards and respect the judgments of the European Court of Human Rights, such as Sejdić-Finci. There is no rule of law without tools, and that is the court, i.e. the judicial system. Neither the entity, nor the canton, nor the political parties can protect you, but the rule of law and equality before the courts. This requires an independent, professional judiciary that is not under political influence,” says Izetbegović.
