BiH Presidency members talk with the US Acting Assistant Secretary of State

SARAJEVO, November 20 (FENA) - BiH Presidency Chairman Milorad Dodik and BiH Presidency members Željko Komšić and Šefik Džaferović talked today via video link with US Acting Assistant Secretary of State for European and Euroasian Affairs Philip Reeker.

The meeting, attended by US Ambassador to BiH Eric Nelson, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Maureen Cormack and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Matt Palmer, was opened by Deputy Secretary of State Stephen Biegun.

Members of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina emphasized the key role of the United States in establishing peace and stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina and thanked the United States for its assistance so far in implementing important reform processes. In that context, the next steps necessary for BiH to meet the conditions for progress towards Euro-Atlantic integration were discussed.

Speaking about European integration, members of the BiH Presidency said that the institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina will continue to meet the conditions for obtaining candidate status for EU membership.

An important topic of today's meeting was economic cooperation between the two countries, and in that context, it was announced the signing of a Memorandum on economic cooperation between BiH and the United States in the fields of infrastructure, energy, digitalization and US investments in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Reeker reiterated that the United States remains a firm and committed partner to Bosnia and Herzegovina in implementing reforms and meeting the conditions for progress towards Euro-Atlantic integration.

He stressed that the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina should maintain its leadership position in future steps to be taken on the EU path, as well as in the implementation of other reforms that will enable a better life for the citizens of BiH.

He praised the implementation of the Agreement, which will result in the holding of elections in Mostar, and called for further action regarding the reform of the Election Law in BiH. He said that the United States helped BiH with 3.7 million dollars in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, and announced the continuation of assistance.

Members of the Presidency of BiH pointed out that Bosnia and Herzegovina's commitment to EU membership is unquestionable, and that economic reforms, as well as the fight against corruption, will be the focus of action in the coming period. At the end of the meeting, the members of the Presidency of BiH thanked for the friendly cooperation and support provided by the United States to BiH, the Presidency of BiH announced.
