Presentation of the results of mine clearance projects in BiH

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, November 19 (FENA) - Results of 18 months of work on the projects "EU Support in Creating a Web Platform for the Mine Action Center in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BH MAC)" and "General Assessment of Mine Suspected Areas in Bosnia and Herzegovina" are presented at an online event held today.

The basic outcome of the General Assessment project is a much more precise and clear identification and prioritization of mine suspected areas, which made the mine action process even more transparent. Data for 143 municipalities in Bosnia and Herzegovina were processed, while the mine danger was confirmed in 118 municipalities, and a total of 478 mine suspected areas were formed.

It was pointed out that the BH MAC database has been improved, as one of the key pillars and an essential part of the entire mine action in our country, and a new, more transparent, more functional and efficient system based on new technologies, which meets all requirements in terms of reporting, planning and data storage.

At the same time, conditions have been created for the improvement of operational activities, as well as the setting of future priorities and their effective implementation.

Better security of all BiH citizens will be ensured by the first mobile phone application that will use all BH MAC data on mine suspected locations.

Funds for the implementation of these projects of 1.1 million euros were provided by the European Union through the Instrument contributing to Stability and Peace (IcSP).

The participants were addressed by the Chair of the Demining Commission in BiH Mirna Pavlović, Head of the EU Delegation and EU Special Representative in BiH Ambassador Johann Sattler, EUFOR Commander Major General Reinhard Trischak and UNDP Resident Representative in BiH Steliana Nedera.

The projects were jointly implemented by the Mine Action Center in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BH MAC), in cooperation with the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina (AFBiH), Norwegian People's Aid in Bosnia and Herzegovina (NPA BiH) and the United Nations Development Program in BiH (UNDP), under the supervision of EUFOR teams, the UNDP said.
