SARAJEVO, November 18 (FENA) - The primary candidate of the Social Democratic Party of BiH for the new mayor of Sarajevo, and the only name that is currently being discussed is Bogić Bogićević, confirmed to FENA the Secretary of the SDPBiH Election Headquarters Nerin Dizdar.
According to Dizdar, under the agreement of the coalition of the "Four", the SDP has a privilege to nominate a candidate for the position of the mayor of Sarajevo and after the victory of these parties in the local elections in Sarajevo city municipalities, their candidate is Bogićević "as the embodiment of not only the spirit of Sarajevo but the whole of BiH."
Although no other name has been in the spotlight for now, if Bogićević cannot accept the duty due to health or some other reasons, the candidate will be "a person of his caliber" who will present Sarajevo as the capital of the entire BiH, Dizdar stated.
In order to elect the mayor of Sarajevo, municipal councils must first be formed, from which the City Council is then formed, which ultimately elects the mayor.
Bogić Bogićević was a member of the Presidency of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY) from May 16, 1989, to September 1991.
He is best known as a participant of the historic session of the Presidency of the SFRY, which was held on March 12, 1991, when this body decided on the introduction of a state of emergency in the SFRY.
Formally, the military leadership had proposed raising combat readiness, but the real goal was to introduce a military administration in Slovenia and Croatia in a coup d'etat and to overthrow the political leadership in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Macedonia through military-political measures.
Bogićević voted against it.
Members of the Presidency of the SFRY who were backing Slobodan Milošević counted on his vote, but to their surprise, Bogićević voted against.
"I am a Serb, but not by profession," Bogićević said at the time.
