SARAJEVO, November 13 (FENA) - The Coalition for Free and Fair Elections – Under the Magnifying Glass (Pod Lupom), said on Friday that it has registered 1,245 different irregularities in the 2020 local election process between September 7 and November 8.

Most of those irregularities refer to premature, prohibited election campaigning, the participation of officials in campaigns, abuse of public resources and trading within local election commissions.

Local election commissions responsible for the voting process are composed of representatives of parties running for posts but independent observers have noticed that a number of new, smaller parties were registered whose members then got seats at local election commission and are selling those seats to the bigger parties.

The Coalition registered 77 cases of this kind of trade-off.

“Some of the most drastic examples were noticed in Zvornik, where all or most of the members of at least 15 of the 87 election commissions come from the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD),” said the project coordinator Dario Jovanović.

“Another notable example is Stanari, where 39 political parties registered for the elections per less than 8,000 voters, which points to fake political stakeholders whose goal is to trade their places in election commissions,” Jovanović underlined.

The Coalition also noticed numerous cases of votes being bought for 50 to 150 KM.

A number of political entities have redirected their campaign activities to social networks and other audiovisual tools for political promotion. Also, election campaign rallies were registered that were held contrary to all recommendations to prevent the spread of coronavirus, without reactions from the authorities or any kind of sanctions.

The Coalition submitted its findings to the CEC about early campaigning, misuse of personal data for voting via regular mail, trading with election commission seats, voter buy-off as well as a number of other violations.
