Bevanda to Tegeltija: Support for the regional initiative ‘Mini Schengen’

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, November 9 (FENA) - Minister of Finance and Treasury of BiH Vjekoslav Bevanda sent a letter today to the Chairman of the Council of Ministers Zoran Tegeltija due to a number of contradictory and inaccurate information that appeared in the media regarding the telephone session of the Council of Ministers of BiH held on November 6 this year.

“As we have witnessed different interpretations and self-initiated actions of individual members of the BiH Council of Ministers in recent days, and media speculation about the attitude of Croat officials, both me and my colleagues in the Council of Ministers regarding Bosnia and Herzegovina's European path, I would like to emphasize our absolute and unequivocal commitment to BiH's path towards full membership in the European Union,” Bevanda states in the letter.

We are particularly pleased, he adds, that there are credible indications that Mini Schengen will be linked to a broader European integration policy that will thus gain a functional and clear regional perspective, as a multilateral agreement that includes measures to relieve the economy, trade, investment, major infrastructure and energy projects with the fundamental goal of affirming the four European freedoms.

“I believe that such a direction is especially important in the circumstances of an aggressive pandemic that has yet to end. With all these elements, the support of the European Union, a clear position of Mini Schengen in the accession process, and compliance with all norms and laws in its implementation and application, such an agreement has a great chance to come true in reality by helping BiH and all its constituent peoples,” states Bevanda.

He noted that "the Croat ministers in the BiH Council of Ministers through all their activities and procedures so far, by applying European standards in drafting and proposing acts, and supporting everything that the conditions of the European Union have shown and proved in a very practical way."

“In accordance with the above, I demand that we urgently, and no later than the beginning of the Summit in Sofia, which is held on Tuesday, November 10, adopt the material already offered for the session of the Council of Ministers of BiH and which contains 'Conclusion No. 2' include the competent levels of government (entities and cantons), and to appoint an official delegation that will represent our homeland Bosnia and Herzegovina,” Bevanda said in a letter to the Chairman of the Council of Ministers of BiH Zoran Tegeltija, the PR Office of the Minister of Finance and Treasury of BiH said.
