Mössler: Establish entrepreneurial network in which Sarajevo will play key role

FENA Hana Imamović

SARAJEVO, November 1 (FENA) - Sarajevo Unlimited, the first regional forum of innovation, entrepreneurship and technology, will host Martin Mössler, Managing Director of the Science Park in Graz and General Manager of the European Space Agency Business Incubation Center Austria (ESA BIC).

The "Sarajevo Unlimited" is the first regional forum of innovation, entrepreneurship and technology, created as a result of the activities of the first year of operation of the entrepreneurial, innovation and educational center Networks in Sarajevo, and this year it will be held on November 5 and 6.

Mössler’s portfolio of innovation activities dates back to 2005 when he worked for Austrian President Heinz Fischer in the fields of science, art and culture.

He has been Director of the Graz Science Park since 2016, which has been supporting entrepreneurs in development for more than 18 years and manages ESA's driving activities for Austria and the wider region of Southeast Europe. Their mission is clear - to support entrepreneurs in realizing their ideas, dreams and visions.

Mössler is a passionate entrepreneur in the field of innovation, whose team produces 20 technological Start-Ups in one year. They help Start-Ups in the areas of business, finance and connectivity, to prepare them for larger markets. Graz Science Park is one of the leading institutions that have the most elite Start-Up programs.

In an interview with FENA, Mössler explains that there is a dedicated team of people at SPG who provide support, offer expertise and experience on the basis of which they manage to develop high-tech projects into successful companies.

"Not only do incubate Start-Ups gain momentum with our consulting, but they also achieve this by connecting with mentors or successful investors," said Mössler.

As he underlined what makes them more unique is that ESA has assigned them the task of representing the headquarters of their initial activities for Austria and the wider region.

"Therefore, Graz Science Park is a place for entrepreneurs where they can improve life on Earth by commercializing innovative space products. The combination of these two programs makes us the strongest player in the Start-Up sector in the wider region," said Mössler.

He is proud of numerous Start-Ups they have supported because entrepreneurship does not only mean success but it is important to overcome challenges and difficulties, and although everyone strives for success, they forget that success comes from a humble, pure and diligent mind, never the other way around.

"This is the principle on which my team works and it has led us to support some powerful global market leaders. Still, there are a few impressive examples of internationally successful Start-Ups: USound, SES-imagotag, Sunnybag, SteadySense, EET and Space Lock Dynamics," he said.

At the Sarajevo Unlimited Forum, Mössler will speak on the topic "Using space technology for commercial purposes" and in an interview with FENA, he noted that some of the most powerful innovations were originally developed for space applications.

He cited solar cells, hydrogen cells, smoke alarms, battery drills, laptops, water filters as examples, and there are numerous other examples we now use in our daily lives.

"There are many opportunities for the development of technologies that we need to make available to people and the market. We strive to target large inventions, while the most important innovations are often a combination of existing technologies with the introduction of several new important details," he underlined.

He is of the opinion that the most important contribution that can be obtained from space is not economic possibilities, but there is a visionary potential space that opens the mind and most importantly - the universe knows no lines of demarcation, no borders, no nationality.

"In a world where nationalism is quite strong, currently reinforced by the coronavirus pandemic, the universal perspective is actually what I consider the most important teaching from space. Innovators need to ignore limitations, boundaries, and narrow-mindedness. That is what is needed to change our economy as well as our world," Mössler believes.

He also says that he is looking forward to coming to Sarajevo to talk about all this because, despite all the security measures he respects, he wants to communicate with his partners because success is also based on resilience.

"Bosnia and Herzegovina, with its intense history between various powers including Austria, is actually a beacon of resilience, a symbol of not giving up. Although everyone is currently inactively waiting for governments to tell them what to do, innovators are moving forward, and so are we," concluded Mössler in an interview with FENA.

In the previous years, the "Sarajevo Unlimited" forum gathered 10,156 participants, presented 220 startups which promoted brilliant ideas to investors and audiences in the region and the world, 252 speakers who shared inspiring experiences in the field of innovation and entrepreneurship.

The Forum also hosted 14 keynote speakers from Google, Deutsche Telecom, BBC, Alibaba, Viber and Huawei, and was attended by 480 foreign delegations, government officials, universities, corporations, banks, insurance companies, technology parks and creative hubs.

This year's "Sarajevo Unlimited" forum is supported by BH Telecom, MIBO Communications, NLB Bank, Science Park from Graz, ESP BH doo, Foreign Investment Council (FIC), German Development Agency-GIZ and many others.
